Life Skills Trainers
No. 8 employs two part-time life skills trainers, to help residents build up skills which help them become more independent. Focus is given to areas of the residents' lives in which they need extra support. One important step is to assess residents' individual needs, defined by themselves and the staff. From such assessments, a personal development plan can be formed for individuals, to develop life skills and knowledge. It is hoped that these plans will enable residents to lead lives with less fear, more knowledge, self awareness and to move on equipped with the personal practical skills needed to make the best of their lives.
A day in the life of the life skills trainer
Each day is completely different as it depends on which resident is being supported at the time. The life skills trainer tends to see three or four people each day, which allows enough quality time to each individual. In order to help the residents develop their skills, the life skills trainer organises sessions covering a range of topics, from cookery and budgeting to exercise and going to the gym. The residents are also encouraged to create their own personal space in their room. With other staff, the trainer may help residents to find employment, voluntary or paid, and support them as they try to explore the world of work again are currently creating content for this section. In order to be able to keep up with our high standards of service, we need a little more time.
