Accommodation at Moxham house

Moxham House (named after our founders, the Moxham family) is our residential care home, also suitable for those who need a period of rehabilitation before moving onto semi-independent or independent living.

Most people here have usually recently been discharged from hospital, while referral and funding comes from Social Services. Originally built in the 1900s, Moxham House is situated in a quiet area within walking distance of Tunbridge Wells town centre. It has been refurbished several times and this is ongoing.

Facilities

There are 17 single bedrooms, each with their own ensuite shower/toilet room. Downstairs there are a number of communal areas for people to socialise, in small or larger groups, depending on preference.

Support

Staff are available on the premises 24 hours a day, while two sleep in each night. Depending on the resident’s abilities, we provide dose-by-dose monitoring of medication ranging up to weekly self-medication. Our support workers aim to help residents develop basic skills (cooking, budgeting, shopping, helping with voluntary or paid work) to enable them to move towards greater independence. All meals are provided but we encourage people to cook some of their own meals (with staff support) and a daily or weekly food allowance is offered for people to buy and cook their own food.

Life at Moxham house

This is more structured than Culverdale or Bethel Court, with residents encouraged to get involved in various group activities on offer each day, such as arts and crafts (in our dedicated new art studio) or gardening. In our large gardens we grow a wide variety of fruit and vegetables and there’s plenty of opportunity to help with this or simply to enjoy a peaceful environment and lots of fresh air. There are also plenty of organised trips – out shopping, to the cinema or seaside for example – while each summer a holiday is organised for residents who wish to go.

Applying for Moxham House

New residents who come to us (from Kent and other local authorities) pay a weekly accommodation fee plus an assessed set amount of staff care time (depending on the needs of that particular resident).
