We know that many of our residents value a home of their own and so we have a range of flats and studio apartments in the community of Tunbridge Wells. Here people can live independently but with support in varying degrees from the Crossways team, and the security of having Crossways as a responsive landlord.
There is provision for 15 residents in our independent living accommodation with needs ranging from daily support from the care home to the occasional input from our independent living manager.
Bethel Court is purpose-built accommodation with six one-bedroom self-contained flats, for people who are able to look after themselves with minimal support.
We also operate step-down accommodation from our two 2-bedroomed flats nearby in which residents who have been receiving 24 hour care have a greater degree of independence whilst continuing to receive significant support from the care home staff.
The residents in our independent living and step-down accommodation are generally referred on from our care home or supported accommodation.
It is not currently possible to self-refer to our independent living accommodation.
Our residents in supported independent accommodation receive varying degrees of support depending on their needs, and our flexible approach means that we can quickly adapt as their mental health fluctuates. We provide encouragement with many daily living tasks, and signposting to external agencies to help with matters such as employment or benefits. We are well-connected in the town and can advise on multiple local activities that are offered by partner organisations.
There are opportunities for individual or group trips both locally and further afield, and the potential to engage in both Crossways’ and external events and projects.
Residents are provided with out of hours numbers so that they can contact the appropriate service in any emergency after normal working hours.
Our Supported Independent Living service is staffed by an experienced Independent Living Manager and supported by other members of the Crossways’ care team. Together, they work with each resident to develop aims and goals that enable each person to live as independently as possible. We train the team to the same high standards as those in our CQC Registered care environments and they undergo additional training specific to supporting people with poor mental health in the community.
